EUROPEAN AFFAIRS / SINGLE MARKET

The single market is at the heart of the European project and its implementation is the Commission’s key to realising the full potential of the European Union (EU).

According to him, the EU consists of a territory without internal borders or other regulatory obstacles to the free movement of goods and services in order to stimulate competition and trade, improve efficiency and increase quality in inverse measure to the reduction of costs.

The European single market is one of the EU’s greatest achievements, having fuelled economic growth and made everyday life easier for European businesses and consumers.

However, their benefits don’t always materialise, due to a lack of knowledge of the rules of the single market, poor implementation or other barriers.

Within the scope of European Affairs, the IPQ ensures:

  • The transposition and monitoring of various Community Directives;
  • Compliance with the procedures of the New Legislative Framework, with regard to the notification and qualification of Organisations;
  • Managing the system of prior notification of technical rules and standards within the European Union (EU) and the World Trade Organisation (WTO);
  • The role of contact point for the Ministry of the Economy and the Sea;
  • Actions arising from Regulation (EC) Nº. 2679/98.
